Prof Stephen Logan named as new NHS Grampian chairman

Prof Stephen Logan will take up the post in January

NHS Grampian has appointed Prof Stephen Logan as its new chairman.

Prof Logan will take up the post in January, following his retirement from his current role as senior vice-principal of the University of Aberdeen.

Bill Howatson announced in October he was stepping down as chairman, amid concern from senior clinical workers of a staffing crisis at the authority.

Prof Logan said he was "delighted and honoured" to have been given the role.

The appointment runs to the end of 2018.

Three official reports earlier this month included concerns about patient care at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary (ARI).

Health Secretary Shona Robison: "With an extensive public sector background, as well as previous experience with NHS Grampian, I know he will be well placed to lead the board as they move forward.

"In addition, Prof Logan has worked in Aberdeen for many years and has a significant understanding of the unique challenges the city and its surrounding area face.

"Under this new leadership, the health board is now in a strong position to take forward the recommendations from the Healthcare Improvement Scotland report quickly and effectively."
