The SNP has won two Aberdeen City Council by-elections following the election of councillors as MPs.

Stephen Flynn triumphed in Kincorth, Nigg and Cove to replace Callum McCaig, who is now the SNP MP for Aberdeen South.

And Neil Copland won the Hilton, Woodside and Stockethill vote, taking over from Kirsty Blackman, the SNP Aberdeen North MP.

Mr Flynn won 60% of first preference votes. Mr Copland won 54%.

Turnout in both wards was just over 25%. Labour came second in both.

Mr Flynn said: "I pledge to always put the interests of local people first and to be a strong voice for our community."

And Mr Copland said: "It is a huge privilege to have the support of the communities here."
