About 280 jobs are at risk in Aberdeen and London, oil services firm Aker Solutions has warned.
A consultation is under way into reducing positions in the firm's UK subsea workforce.
The breakdown of where the jobs would be lost has not been specified.
Aker's David Clark, regional head for Europe and Africa, said: "These are tough but necessary measures to help ensure we stay competitive during a challenging time for our industry."
Aker employs about 15,000 people, of which about 2,500 are in the UK.
