First Great Aberdeen Run date announced

A new Great Aberdeen Run is to be held in August next year, it has been announced.

A half marathon, 10K and family fun run, external will be staged in the city on Sunday 27 August by the company behind Newcastle's famous Great North Run.

The course will include Union Street and the beach.

Mark Hollinshead, group chief executive of the Great Run Company, said: "We're thrilled to be bringing the Great Run experience to Aberdeen."

Aberdeen City Council, Aberdeen and Grampian Chamber of Commerce, VisitAberdeenshire and Aberdeen Inspired have all been involved.

Steve Harris, chief executive of VisitAberdeenshire, said: " I believe that it will be a massive draw for the region as runners from far afield come to try out a new city and bring friends and family to join them."
