A child has been injured after rendering fell from a playground wall at a school in Aberdeen.

The incident - which appeared to involve a mural attached to the wall - happened at St Joseph's RC primary in Queen's Road shortly before 09:00.

An 11-year-old boy was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with a foot injury. His relatives were with him.

Aberdeen City Council said precautionary checks were being carried out at all local authority schools.

In an updated statement on Tuesday evening the council said: "We can confirm the pupil is recovering from a foot injury.

"Staff at the school have been liaising with the pupil's family and will continue to receive updates. The best wishes of all at St Joseph's and Aberdeen City Council have been passed to the pupil and his family.

"Our thanks go to colleagues in the emergency services and school staff members who responded quickly to the incident."

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has been notified and is investigating.

The statement added: "Due to the ongoing work by the HSE it would not be appropriate for Aberdeen City Council to comment further on specific detail, but we are fully supporting the investigation. We are also conducting our own review into the circumstances of the incident."

The area affected in the school playground was fenced off to prevent access.

Police Scotland said officers had been called to a report of an injured child at the school.

A spokesman said: "The 11-year-old boy was injured in the playground.

"Officers will be liaising with Aberdeen City Council and the Health and Safety Executive regarding the incident."

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said the alarm had been raised at 08:54 on Tuesday.

"We dispatched one ambulance and a paramedic response unit to the scene.

"One male patient was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary."
