John Menzies said the restructuring move would return its cargo business to profitability

John Menzies has announced it is to end its cargo operations at four UK airports by the end of next month.

Its aviation services arm, Menzies Aviation, will halt operations at Glasgow, Birmingham, East Midlands and Manchester airports.

Edinburgh-based Menzies is to focus its UK cargo business on London Heathrow, as well as smaller operations in Aberdeen and Belfast.

The company said the move would return its cargo business to profitability.

The restructuring will result in an exceptional charge of up to £3m.

In March Menzies announced a sharp rise in profits, with aviation services overtaking newspaper distribution as its biggest driver last year.
