Dumfries and Galloway travel warning over wind and rain

  • Published

Motorists and pedestrians have been advised to take extra care after routes in Dumfries and Galloway were affected by overnight wind and rain.

Bad weather has caused disruption to roads throughout the region, with flooding and debris causing problems.

Surface water was a significant issue late on Wednesday as downpours continued throughout the area.

A police spokesman said travel difficulties remained on a number of routes due to the wind and rain.

One school in the region has also been closed due to a lack of power.

Pupils at Kirkcolm Primary in the Rhins of Galloway have been sent home for the day.

Similar problems led to the closure of Fountainhall Primary in the neighbouring Scottish Borders.

Galashiels Community Recycling Centre has also been shut because of strong winds.
