Police are appealing for information after thieves struck at the house which helped to inspire the Peter Pan story.

Moat Brae House in Dumfries is currently undergoing a major renovation to turn it into a national centre for children's literature.

Lead flashing worth about £2,000 was taken from its roof overnight between Tuesday and Wednesday.

Anyone who was in the area and saw anything suspicious has been asked to contact police.

First phase works to convert the building, where author JM Barrie played as a child, are scheduled to be completed later this year.

Architects are currently working on the second phase which includes visitor facilities and developing land behind the house.
