Mr Nicholson died in Borders General Hospital more than a week after being trampled by cows

A pensioner has died in hospital as a result of the injuries he received from being trampled by cows in the Borders.

Richard Nicholson, 78, from Duns, was seriously hurt in the incident on farmland near Greenlaw on 25 August.

Over the past eight days he had been at Borders General Hospital.

In a family statement, his son Robert said: "Dad was well-known and well-liked within the local community, and he will be sadly missed by all his family and friends."

Police said there were no suspicious circumstances and a report would be sent to the procurator fiscal.
