Speed cameras have been attacked more than 20 times in the last decade in the Borders

A speed camera has been set alight in the Borders - where there have been more than 20 attacks on the safety devices in the past decade.

The latest incident happened on the A68 at Newtown St Boswells at about 00:30 on Wednesday.

Firefighters were called to the scene and were able to put out the flames and isolate the power.

Anyone who was in the area and saw anything suspicious has been asked to contact the police.

Speed cameras have regularly been set alight in the region, and were also subjected to a spate of attacks with a saw.

Police have previously condemned the attacks on what they call a "vital tool in keeping our roadways safe".
