NHS Borders chief executive moves to NHS Lanarkshire

Calum Campbell played as a striker for a number of Scottish league sides

NHS Borders has announced that its chief executive Calum Campbell has been appointed to the same post with NHS Lanarkshire.

The former footballer took up his post with the south of Scotland health board in January 2010.

He said he was "exceptionally proud of the high quality health care services" in the Borders.

Mr Campbell added that he was now looking forward to the challenges that lay ahead in Lanarkshire.

NHS Borders chairman John Raine said: "The fact that Borders is one of the best performing health boards in Scotland reflects the excellence of Calum's leadership and he will be greatly missed.

"To be appointed chief executive of one of the largest health boards in Scotland is an accolade and testimony to his abilities and substantial experience of health service management."

Prior to his appointment with NHS Borders, Mr Campbell was working in Wales as acting chief executive with ABM University NHS Trust.

That came after a lengthy spell balancing his NHS career with that as a striker in the Scottish league playing with Airdrie, Kilmarnock, Partick Thistle and Dumbarton.
