Councillors rejected the plans for Glenkerie wind farm in the Scottish Borders

Councillors have rejected plans for a six-turbine extension to a wind farm in the Scottish Borders.

Two community councils as well as walkers and hill-runners organisations had objected to proposals to increase the size of the 11-turbine Glenkerie wind farm.

But Scottish Borders Council officials had advised that there were no planning grounds to refuse the application.

Renewable energy firm Infinis wanted to add the turbines.

Last month, the council's planning committee was told that the original turbines had been largely contained within a remote valley south east of Biggar.

The proposed extension would have seen new turbines encroach over the saddle of the ridge.

It led one councillor to describe it as "the march of the turbines".

SBC's planning committee agreed to refuse the expansion bid.
