The stars of cycling are set to come out for the Tour of Britain as it gets under way next weekend and there are few bigger than five times Olympic gold medallist Sir Bradley Wiggins.

If it comes to a sprint in the opening stage from Glasgow to Castle Douglas expect Olympic silver medallist and multi-stage winner at the Tour de France, Mark Cavendish, to be in the hunt for victory.

However, Cavendish won't have it all his own way in a bunch finish if German sprinter Andre Greipel has anything to do with it.

Another Olympian, Steve Cummings, who was also a stage winner in this year's Tour de France is expected on the streets of Scotland.

Former world hour record holder Rohan Dennis of Australia is part of the line-up announced so far for the Tour of Britain.

There will be more Olympic gold on the start line in Glasgow with Owain Doull who was part of the victorious team pursuit along with Sir Bradley Wiggins.

Also fresh from Rio to the streets of Castle Douglas will be American rider Taylor Phinney. The Tour of Britain begins on Sunday 4 September with a stage entirely in Scotland.
