Man in court over Walkerburn bowling club fire

A 27-year-old man has appeared in court in connection with a fire which caused extensive damage to a bowling club in the Scottish Borders.

Sam Williams was charged with culpable and reckless fire raising after the blaze in Walkerburn on Tuesday.

He made no plea at Selkirk Sheriff Court and the case was continued for further examination.

A motion for bail was refused and Mr Williams, from Walkerburn, was remanded in custody by Sheriff Peter Paterson.
