Three people who died in a crash on the A9 in Perthshire on Friday have been named by police.

The collision near Pitlochry involved four cars and was described by firefighters as a "scene of carnage".

Denny couple James Forbes, 73, and his 66-year-old wife wife Anne died when their car was hit by a Volvo S80 that crossed the carriageway.

The Volvo driver, 63-year-old John Potter from Scarborough, also died at the scene.

A 47-year-old woman also involved in the crash near the Killiecrankie turn-off was was airlifted to Ninewells Hospital and received surgery to her right arm for tendon and artery damage.

She has since been released from hospital.

The incident happened on a single carriageway stretch of the A9 at 1155 BST on Friday.

Police closed the road was closed for several hours after the crash.
