Norovirus closes ward at Dundee's Ninewells Hospital

Ninewells Hospital in Dundee has closed one its wards to new admissions following an outbreak of norovirus.

Ward 3 has been closed following several cases of vomiting and diarrhoea.

NHS Tayside said they believed the outbreak was as a result of norovirus, more commonly known as the winter vomiting bug.

A health board spokesman added that infection control measures had been put in place.

The health board said the decision to close the medicine and cardiovascular ward to new patients was a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of the virus.

The hospital asked anyone who might be feeling unwell or experiencing vomiting and diarrhoea not to visit friends and family members at Ninewells for at least 48 hours after they are free of all symptoms.
