Open top bus parade for Scottish Cup winners St Johnstone

Scottish Cup Final victors St Johnstone are showing off the trophy during an open-top bus parade though Perth.

Thousands of fans are lining the streets to welcome home the team after their 2-0 win over Tayside rivals Dundee United.

The victory at Celtic Park secured Saints their first major trophy in their 130-year history.

The open-top bus left McDiarmid Park shortly after noon. A pipe band led the bus through the city centre.

St Johnstone chairman Steve Brown said he was "elated and emotional" after the cup success and the city parade.

He said: "It means everything to me that people of the city come out because the club should be about the city. It is a community club."

Players and officials were later received at the Royal George Hotel for a Civic Reception.

The celebrations were organised by Perth and Kinross Council.

Goals in each half from Steven Anderson and Steven MacLean secured the historic win on Saturday.

Speaking on the bus parade, MacLean said he was "totally ecstatic" at the win and everything had been "a bit of blur" since the victory.

He said: "It is all a bit surreal. It is hard to sink in, to be honest. It's great for the fans. There were 15,000 there yesterday. We are used to having 3,000, so that's incredible.

"It is incredible again here today."
