Five are saved from sinking boat by Tenby RNLI crew

A lifeboat crew rescued five people from a sinking fishing boat after getting a mayday call at just after 2300 BST on Friday.

The Tenby RNLI lifeboat was called to assist the crew of the 30ft fast fishing boat which was six miles south of Penmaen Sands, Oxwich Bay, Swansea.

The sinking vessel was just three weeks old.

When lifeboat crews got to them only the tip of the bow remained out of the water on which all five were perched.

A flare was fired to help the RNLI lifeboat and its volunteer crew to locate the sinking vessel.

As the RNLI crew helped the casualties on board the lifeboat, the fishing boat sank further underwater.

Nobody was injured in the incident and all were returned to Swansea after they warmed up.

Due to the position of the sunken boat, a second lifeboat was tasked with securing a buoy to warn other vessels of its presence.

The Burry Port Atlantic Blue Peter II crew were helped by Dyfed-Powys Police helicopter to locate the vessel in order for the owner to recover it.
