New £9.8m Ysgol Treganna plan for Cardiff approved

Plans to build a £9.8m Welsh medium primary school in Cardiff have been approved by the council's executive.

Original plans to move Ysgol Treganna in Canton to the site of the English-medium Lansdowne School were rejected by First Minister Carwyn Jones.

Cardiff council said building a new school was the only viable option left.

Under the plans, Tan yr Eos school would merge with Ysgol Treganna by 2013 on land in Sanatorium Road, Canton, owned by the council.

The assembly government is expected to contribute much of the funding towards the cost.

A total of 281 responses, including a petition of 704 signatures, backed the proposals. There were two letters of objection.
