Ysgol Goronwy Owen head teacher Ann Hughes remains suspended pending an investigation

Teachers who passed a no confidence motion in the head teacher of their troubled Anglesey school are returning to work.

Five of the six teachers at Ysgol Goronwy Owen, Benllech, have been on sick leave since May after threatening industrial action following the motion.

Head Ann Hughes was suspended in July pending an ongoing investigation.

Anglesey council confirmed the five teachers would return at the start of term but Ms Hughes remained suspended.

Supply staff had replaced the five teachers, who are UCAC union members, while they were off.

A spokesperson for Anglesey council said: "We can confirm that the responsibility for the school will be shared between two experienced head teachers, who will work as a team whilst the investigation is under way.

"Parents have been informed of the arrangements."

The council confirmed the two heads were Gareth Hughes, head teacher at Ysgol y Borth, Menai Bridge, and Peter Thomas, former head of Ysgol Gynradd Amlwch.

The council commissioner with responsibility for education, Gareth Jones, had said in July that the school's problems must be resolved as soon as possible.
