Welsh Water says the fault has now been fixed and supplies will return during Friday evening

A burst water main has disrupted supplies to up to 10,000 properties in western areas in Cardiff.

Welsh Water said supplies halted in the Victoria Park, Ely and Canton areas, affecting homes and businesses.

The firm said the pipe at fault had now been fixed and supplies returned to normal during Friday evening, but customers should expect tap water to be discoloured initially.

The company apologised for the inconvenience caused.

Bottled water had been provided to vulnerable customers.

A Welsh Water spokesperson said: "We were alerted this afternoon that a third party had caused damage to our water main on the Ely Bridge development site.

"As supplies begin to return, we would ask customers to use water sparingly if possible as this will help the network return to normal.

"We would also remind customers that as supplies return, they may notice a slight discolouration of their tap water.

"This is not unusual after an incident of this nature and should clear within a short period of time."
