A 50-year-old diver has died after suffering a cardiac arrest at Dorothea Quarry in Gwynedd.

Emergency services including an RAF search and rescue helicopter were called to the water-filled quarry at about 12:50 BST on Saturday.

North Wales Police said the man later died.

A spokesman said the man's family has been informed and the coroner has been notified.

The flooded quarry in the Nantlle valley has become a popular site with divers since it ended operations in the 1970s.

There have been about 20 deaths there since 1990.
