106 beaches succeed in Keep Wales Tidy seaside awards

Barafundle Bay in Pembrokeshire was among the beaches praised

Beaches in Wales have yet again been recognised for their good quality water and facilities.

One hundred and six were rewarded in the Keep Wales Tidy Seaside Awards 2014.

Pembrokeshire's coastline landed the most awards with 31, while 26 beaches were recognised on Anglesey.

The announcement follows the Blue Flag awards and green coast awards, which saw 65 Welsh beaches celebrated.

Among those recognised this time was Barafundle Bay in Pembrokeshire, while Ceredigion's beaches attracted 15 awards, including its idyllic stretches of sand at Mwnt.

Gwynedd had 14 awards, Conwy secured eight and Swansea had four.

Bridgend, Carmarthenshire and Denbighshire won two, while Flintshire and Neath Port Talbot received one each.

As well as awarding beaches for their facilities, Keep Wales Tidy also rewards community involvement and ensures people are supported in caring for their coastline.

Last year, Rhossili Bay on the Gower peninsula was named the best beach in the UK by TripAdvisor, as well as featuring in their top 10 beaches in the world.
