Volunteers have already started restoring the kiln at Watton, Brecon

Volunteers are needed to help restore three historical kilns on the banks of the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal.

The kilns played an important role in Wales' industrial history and were used to produce lime mortar used in agriculture and construction.

Glandwr Cymru said it was "relying on the support of the local community" and would train volunteers to restore kilns at Goytre, Watton and Llangattock.

The trust is hosting two drop-in sessions for would-be volunteers.

The sessions are being held on Thursday at Watton Lime Kilns, Brecon, and Friday 14 August at Goytre Wharf, Abergavenny.

The 49-mile (79km) canal winds its way south from Brecon to Cwmbran, Newport and Cwmcarn.

The project has been funded by £60,700 from the Heritage Lottery Fund and £30,000 from the Brecon Beacons Trust.
