BSE 'mad cow disease' identified in dead cow

A case of "mad cow disease" has been identified in a dead cow on a farm in Wales, the Welsh government has said.

It did not enter the human food chain, and authorities said there was no risk to human health.

There have been no previous incidences of BSE in the UK this year, according to the World Organisation for Animal Health.

One case was confirmed in 2014 and three in 2013, including one in Wales.

Rebecca Evans, Deputy Minister for Farming and Food, said: "Identification of this case demonstrates that the controls we have in place are working well."
