Power cuts and floods after storms hit Wales

Hundreds of homes were left without power while roads and trains were affected by flooding after storms battered Wales.

Scottish Power said 300 customers have had power cuts, with the worst affected areas around Newtown and Welshpool, Powys.

An additional 259 Western Power Distribution customers were without electricity in the Pontyberem area of Carmarthenshire

Flood warnings were also issued.

Natural Resources Wales (NRW) said flooding would affect the Conwy, Dyfi and Lower Dee valleys.

The Met Office yellow "be ready" warning for north Wales, Ceredigion and Powys, was in place until 04:00 GMT Monday.

The Met Office said: "Be aware that, given already saturated conditions, flooding is possible either from standing water or from rivers which have remained high after the large rainfall totals over the last few days."

NRW said its staff would be out working all weekend on flood defences and putting measures in place to reduce the impact on people and their property.

Weather-related problems

• Western Power Distribution said 259 were without power in the Pontyberem / Five Roads area of Carmarthenshire

• Arriva Trains Wales said there was disruption on services between Llanbradach and Ystrad Mynach due to fallen tree on the line.

• There were also no Arriva Trains Wales services between Caersws and Machynlleth due to flooding.

• A Wales Rally GB stage at Llandudno's Great Orme was closed to spectators due to safety concerns caused by weather conditions

• Firefighters were called to reports of flooding at a property in Ysbyty Ifan, Conwy county

• The A494 in Dolgellau, Gwynedd, was closed between A470 (Dolgellau) and A4212 Heol Ffrydan (Bala) due to flooding

• There was hazardous driving conditions on A476 at Heol Morlais in Llannon, Carmarthenshire

• There was a fallen tree on Leckwith Road, Llandough, Vale of Glamorgan

• Flooding affected the A470 Llanrwst Road, Trefriw, Conwy county

• The A487 was closed in both directions closed due to flooding at Machynlleth, Gwynedd, between A493 (Dyfi Bridge) and Maes Glas (Machynlleth Railway Station)

• A458 was closed in both directions at Llanfair Caereinion due to flooding between B4389 Bridge Street (Llanfair Caereinion) and B4385 (Cyfronydd)
