Crime drama series Hinterland is to be broadcast in the US.

Senior series producer Ed Thomas made the announcement at an event organised by Aberystwyth University for former students in New York.

The drama is already shown on Netflix but will be screened on TV there from 30 June.

The programme, filmed in Ceredigion and featuring Richard Harrington as Det Ch Insp Tom Mathias, is set to return for a third series on S4C in October 2016.

'Raising the profile'

It is shot in English and Welsh and called Y Gwyll for the bilingual version.

S4C said distributor All3media International had sold the series to American Public Television (APT).

Ian Jones, S4C chief executive, said: "The popularity of Y Gwyll keeps on growing and it has become a huge export for both S4C and Wales - raising the profile of the country and the talent we have here."
