Frank Auerbach art among Cowbridge school's auction lots

Works by artists including Frank Auerbach and Kevin Sinnott have been auctioned at a fundraiser for a Welsh school's new art wing.
Cowbridge Comprehensive School in Vale of Glamorgan raised £24,000 towards the £100,000 needed on Sunday.
Teacher Daisy Prendergast, daughter of late landscape painter Peter Prendergast, external, approached the artists.
A drawing donated by Auerbach, who has been called by some the UK's "greatest living artist", was sold for £8,500.
Ms Prendergast said she was "extremely excited" when she received Auerbach's drawing, titled Albert Street: "I opened the envelope and inside it, wrapped in tissue paper, was this beautiful little drawing. I was like a star-struck teenager, I was so excited."
She said the work was "incredibly energetic, very colourful".
Ms Prendergast added: "It is incredibly vibrant, lively and fresh. It feels so contemporary."
In a letter accompanying his donation, Auerbach wrote that he received multiple requests for works to be donated to good causes but chose to respond to this appeal because of his fondness for Ms Prendergast's father, who he had taught at the Slade school of art.

Home, an oil by award-winning, Barry-born artist Sally Moore sold for £1,800
Welsh artist Kevin Sinnott donated Mother and Son, which sold for £2,100.
A Peter Prendergast landscape went for £1,900.
Other artists who donated works include Sally Moore, Liam O'Connor, and Brendan Stuart Burns.

Students at the school submitted works, which were auctioned alongside those of the professional artists.
Speaking after the auction Ms Prendergast said it had been "fantastic".
She added: "The support was tremendous and people paid realistic prices that the pieces deserved. It's very pleasing."
