A road blocked by a landslide will remain closed across the entire weekend.

A tree and debris are covering the carriageway on the route through Resolven, Neath Port Talbot.

It has forced officials to close the B4242 Glynneath Road in both directions near the Resolven roundabout.

On Friday afternoon, Neath Port Talbot council confirmed the road will not be reopened until work to clear it is completed.

In a statement, council highways staff said they needed "specialised equipment" to help tree clearance above the road.

The stability of land above the two lanes will now be assessed on Monday afternoon.

South Wales Police's roads policing unit tweeted photos of the blocked carriageway, with the tree having fallen from a bank above.

Officers warned: "Please choose an alternative route and take care out there."
