Two evacuated from house after lightning strike

A house in Carmarthenshire has been severely damaged after being hit by lightning.

The property in Rhosnewydd, Tumble, was hit shortly before 07:00 GMT on Wednesday.

Mid and West Wales fire service said the house had been damaged throughout and two people had gone to hospital for cautionary checks.

Elliott Rees, who lives a street away from the house, said the noise had been heard by people all around the village.

"It didn't sound like a lightning strike, it sounded more like an explosion," Mr Rees said.

"I started going back to sleep, and 10 minutes later there were the blue lights on the road and the whole village came out then to see the mess the strike made.

"The roof has got a massive hole in it and the back of the house is completely ruined. There's a hole in the roof at the back and the walls have come off as well."

It comes ahead of a Met Office yellow warning for rain across large parts of Wales from noon on Thursday until 23:59 on Friday.

A spokeswoman for Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said the lightning strike had caused "severe damage throughout the property".

She added another property had suffered minor damage.
