Performances in November and December at St David's Hall have been moved or cancelled

A Cardiff concert venue has announced it will remain closed until the new year over concrete concerns.

St David's Hall was closed in September after reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (Raac) was found.

Reopening had been planned for early October, but had been pushed back to later in the month, while some shows in November and December were cancelled.

Cardiff Council said a decision would be made by cabinet about the type of work needed to reopen the hall.

"Early indications have made it clear that work will be required if the hall is to reopen," it said in a statement.

The inspections are expected to conclude by 22 October

The council said exactly what the repair work is will depend on the report findings as well as long-term and short-term cost implications - as well as how long "remedial works" would last before "a full replacement of the Raac panels in the roof" was needed.

It added the cabinet would make a decision on these works later this month but "a decision has been taken now to extend the closure of St David's Hall until the new year at the very least".

On Thursday, the venue confirmed on social media a December gig by Stereophonics' Kelly Jones new band, Far From Saints, would now take place at the Utilita Arena - formerly the Cardiff International Arena.

Some other shows in November and December had been moved or cancelled.

It said St David's Hall would be in contact with customers with options after speaking to show promotors.
