Diwali: What is the festival of light and how is it celebrated?

This weekend Hindus, Sikhs and Jains will be celebrating Diwali, the festival of light.

The five-day festival is a celebration of the triumph of good over evil and candlelight from Diyas will illuminate homes, while firework displays will scare off evil spirits.

Diwali is also celebrated by making creative displays known as Rangoli using petals and sands.
