A large grass and gorse fire which broke out in the Gower area of Swansea is now out, with no damage to any properties.

Mid and West Wales Fire Service said there were several fires across the Gower common which it tackled, and a small patch has been left to burn.

Fire crews left before 00:00 GMT after being called out to tackle the blaze which broke out on Friday afternoon.

The cause of the wildfire remains unclear.

The fire service said it was first called by members of the public at 16:27 GMT.

The incident could be seen from a wide area, including the Llanelli side of the Loughour Estuary.

Andrew Windsor, from Llanelli, said he noticed the fire while driving along a road in the area and hoped everyone in the surrounding area "was ok".

"I was on my way to the shop when I saw the fire, initially thinking it was the sun setting, before double taking and realising the Gower was on fire," he added.
