The trial of a councillor who stabbed his wife three times in the back has collapsed after the jury was unable to reach a verdict.

Darren Brown denied the attempted murder of his wife at their home in Wildmill, Bridgend, on 10 July 2023.

He previously pleaded guilty to wounding with intent.

Judge Jeremy Jenkins discharged the jury at Cardiff Crown Court after it could not come to a verdict on the more serious charge.

The court previously heard Mr Brown attacked Corrine Brown, 33, as she comforted their 18-month-old child in the toddler's bedroom.

Judge Jenkins thanked the jurors for their time and gave the prosecution until 26 January to decide whether to seek a retrial on the attempted murder charge.

Mr Brown, an independent on Bridgend Town Council until his resignation, will be sentenced at a later date for the charge of wounding with intent.
