Pancake Day: Why do we eat them on Shrove Tuesday?

So why do we eat pancakes on Pancake Day?

They are of course a delicious sweet treat - but why do we enjoy them on this day in particular each year?

We went along to a pancake shop in Penarth, Vale of Glamorgan, to ask... in between tasty mouthfuls.
