A man has been charged with murder after a 64-year-old man died following reports of a serious assault in Cardiff.

Officers were called to Belmont Walk just after 09:00 GMT on Sunday.

Mujeeb Rahman Hassani, 38, will appear at Cardiff Magistrates' Court on Thursday, charged with the murder of Ibrahim Yassin.

Det Ch Insp Matt Davies said it was a "shock" to the "close-knit community" of Butetown.

The senior investigating officer added "immense grief and distress" had been caused to Mr Yassin's family.

"There has been a considerable police presence in Butetown this week and we wish to thank the local community for their support and understanding during our investigation," he said.

South Wales Police urged anyone with information to contact them.

Officers closed local roads around Cardiff Bay on Sunday and pedestrians were asked to avoid the area during the investigation.
