Tesco confirmed for Mill Street scheme in Aberystwyth

A Tesco store is at the centre of multimillion-pound plans to develop part of Aberystwyth town centre, which will create more than 200 jobs.

Ceredigion council says proposals by developers Chelverton Deeley Freed also include three shop units and a multi-storey car park.

The council appointed the developer two weeks ago, and has now confirmed the identity of those involved.

The supermarket will be built on the town's Mill Street car park.

A number of developers submitted bids for the scheme, which includes more than 500 car parking spaces, with 134 reserved for public parking.

A council spokeswoman said the proposal would generate "well in excess of 200" full-time jobs, and is expected to boost town centre trade by between £1.6 and £3.5m a year.

Six councillors had signed a motion calling for more scrutiny of a cabinet decision to approve the developer.

The local authority's economic development and scrutiny committee voted to endorse the cabinet's decision last month.
