Royal Welsh Show board chairman David Lewis to retire

David Lewis has overseen a period of huge investment in the showground at Llanelwedd in Powys

One of the Royal Welsh Show's top officials is to retire from his role next month, it has been announced.

David Lewis has served as chairman of the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society's board of directors for six years, and is a former president of the event.

Mr Lewis has overseen a period of huge investment in the showground in Llanelwedd, Powys, in recent years.

A new food hall and members centre have been built, and the main ring has been resurfaced under his leadership.

Last month it was announced that the society's chief executive David Walters would retire next May.

Mr Lewis, a leading livestock auctioneer and land agent in south west Wales, who also farms in Carmarthenshire, said: "Although I am giving up as chairman I remain totally committed to the Royal Welsh and shall continue as a member of the board. My contribution to the show and the society will not be diminished."

He has been closely associated with the Royal Welsh since 1974. In 1991 he was became an honorary life vice president in recognition of his service to the show.
