About 20 people protested in Aberystwyth

A protest has been staged outside council offices in Aberystwyth over plans to close a primary school nearby.

It follows a decision by Ceredigion council's cabinet to consult over the closure of Ysgol Llanafan.

About 20 people from Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg (Welsh Language Society) took part in the protest as education watchdog Estyn met Ceredigion council.

The council is restructuring primary schools and cites 10,000 fewer children in the county compared to 10 years ago.

The authority's cabinet decided to consult on closing Ysgol Llanafan due to its size.

It said there would be 16 pupils there by September next year.
