Interest in hosting the 2020 National Eisteddfod has been expressed by Ceredigion council.

Leader Ellen ap Gwynn said discussions had been held with the eisteddfod's chief executive, Elfed Roberts.

She said the next step was to find a suitable 140-acre flat site to accommodate the event.

The last time the event was held in the county was in Aberystwyth in 1992; it has also been hosted in Lampeter in 1984 and in Cardigan in 1976.

Ceredigion hosted the first known eisteddfod in 1176.
