Norovirus: New cases reported at Llandudno Hospital

Two wards are affected at Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor

A total of 12 wards continue to be affected by a sickness bug outbreak at four hospitals in north Wales.

There have been a number of new cases reported at Llandudno Hospital, Conwy, with four wards now closed to stop the norovirus bug from spreading.

Cases at Bangor's Ysbyty Gwynedd and Wrexham Maelor are falling, say health officials. Five wards remain closed at the Maelor and two at Ysbyty Gwynedd.

A single affected ward at Mold Hospital in Flintshire is to reopen on Tuesday.

Visiting is not allowed on the affected wards to try to stop the outbreak, said a statement from Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board which runs the hospitals.

The main symptoms of the norovirus infection are sudden nausea, stomach ache followed by severe "projectile" vomiting and / or diarrhoea.

Symptoms usually begin between 12 and 48 hours after a person becomes infected.

Hospital visitors are asked to check with the nurse in charge of a ward before visiting.
