Wrexham Maelor Hospital has closed six wards to new admissions due to an outbreak of the norovirus sickness bug.

About 36 patients had symptoms on Monday, said officials at Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB) which manages the hospital.

No other hospitals in the area are reporting similar problems.

The spokesperson said the diarrhoea and vomiting virus was usually more active during the winter months.

He advised people who had suffered from symptoms to avoid visiting hospital patients for at least 48 hours after their symptoms have ended.

People who had symptoms and are due to attend hospital for appointments are asked to telephone for advice.
