Norovirus closes three wards at Wrexham Maelor hospital for weekend

Patients due to attend the Wrexham hospital are asked to phone ahead for advice

Three wards at Wrexham Maelor Hospital which are closed following a high number of norovirus cases are not expected to reopen until after the weekend.

Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board said no new patients were being admitted to those wards following an outbreak of the winter vomiting bug.

On Friday the board said 11 patients had symptoms in the previous two days.

Additional infection control measures have been put in place.

Other wards are open as normal.

Patients due to attend appointments and with symptoms are asked to telephone the ward or department for advice before visiting.

Visitors are being told to look out for notices and signs indicating affected areas and get advice from staff before entering.

The health board said babies and young children should not be taken onto wards, and visitors should wash their hands when entering and leaving.

Anyone suffering from diarrhoea, vomiting or an upset stomach in the last 48 hours is asked not to visit the hospital.
