Prestatyn GPs hub in former council buildings gets go-ahead

Former council offices in Denbighshire will become a new hub for GP services after plans were approved.

The Ty Nant offices in Prestatyn will be leased to the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board as part of a new primary health care service.

It will replace the Pendyffryn Medical Group and Seabank Drive which will stop treating 21,000 patients in March due to recruitment problems.

Staff will transfer on 1 April, with six extra GPs needed for the service.

Details of the plans were discussed and approved by the health board on Thursday.

Area director Bethan Jones told the meeting: "There are some risks and we need to be mindful of them. But this is an exciting project."

'Way forward'

The main Pendyffryn surgery building will be retained for at least six months and run by the health board, before services are transferred to Ty Nant.

The health board said it would also like to continue leasing the Seabank Drive surgery and two branch surgeries at Ffynnongroew and Meliden.

Clare Darlington, the board's assistant area director for primary care and commissioning, wrote in a health board report: "It is recognised that not all of these arrangements are ideal.

"However given the constraints imposed by the notice period to the current contracts and subsequent project timescales, they are recommended as the most appropriate way forward."
