The Healthy Prestatyn Iach centre could open in former council offices

Extra nurses and therapists are to be based at a new health centre which opens in a Denbighshire town in April.

The plan is to maximise the amount of time GPs can spend with patients in Prestatyn, according to health bosses.

The new Healthy Prestatyn Iach centre takes over from two GP practices in the seaside community. Occupational therapists, nurse practitioners and pharmacists will also be based there.

A second service will start in Rhuddlan when the current GP practice shuts.

Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, which will manage both primary health care centres, has recruited nine GPs to assist existing colleagues in Prestatyn.

The service will initially be based at Pendyffryn and Seabank practices, but the health board hopes to secure former council offices as a new premise.

The health board could have to manage Pen Y Maes surgery in Summerhill, Wrexham, if another team of GPs does not take it over in October.
