Denbighshire raises council tax on empty and second homes

Owners of second homes and long-term empty properties in Denbighshire will pay an additional 50% of council tax from next year.

Councillors voted to add the premium on long-term empty homes from April 2018 and second homes from April 2019.

In April, councils were given the powers to charge up to 100% extra council tax to help bring empty homes back into use.

There are 250 second homes in the county and 946 empty properties.

Denbighshire follows Wrexham, Flintshire and Powys councils in implementing the 50% premium, while Ceredigion and Anglesey will charge an extra 25%.

Conwy and Gwynedd are yet to decide.
