Plans to help solve traffic problems in and around Caernarfon and Bontnewydd in Gwynedd are to go on public display.

There was a similar event in March, and the most popular solution with the public was a bypass.

This was despite concern by some about the suggested route for the new road at Bontnewydd, because it did not make use of existing roads.

Two public exhibitions detailing the plans will be held in Caernarfon and Bontnewydd later this month.

A spokesman for the Welsh Assembly Government said 900 people attended public exhibitions in March and 498 questionnaires were returned.

There were also 100 written responses by post and e-mail.

"From the comments and suggestions received via the consultation, it was decided that a bypass was the most popular solution," he added.

Mini-roundabout

Aeron Jones, the Llanwnda councillor with Gwynedd council, said his understanding was that the main change to the original plans involved upgrading the Caeathro road out of Bontnewydd so that the new road passed the garage at Caeathro.

This option would also not affect a holiday park at Glan Gwna.

"I still think though, that the best option to improve traffic flow in Bontnewydd would be to replace the current traffic lights with an underpass to allow safe passage to the local school," he said.

"The mini-roundabout should then be removed, and this would prevent the main obstruction to traffic at peak times," he added.

Comment forms are being made available to local residents and businesses and two public exhibitions will be held.

The first is at the Celtic Royal Hotel in Caernarfon on Tuesday, 16 November (1000 - 2000 GMT) and Thursday, 18 November (0900 - 1400 GMT).

The second is at Canolfan Bontnewydd, The Old School Bontnewydd, on Friday, 19 November (0900 - 2000 GMT).
