Four people stung by jellyfish on Lligwy beach, Anglesey

Four people suffered jellyfish stings after a swarm moved inshore close to a beach on Anglesey.

A boy was reported to be distressed and in pain after being stung on Lligwy beach on Thursday afternoon.

Moelfre Coastguard Rescue team were called to the scene and gave first aid, monitoring the boy until his condition improved.

The coastguards went along the beach advising members of the public to stay out of the water.

Holyhead coastguards said there had been reports of jellyfish with a purple tinge around the coast of the island in recent weeks.

On Tuesday, researchers said the jellyfish population in north Wales had soared after the recent warm weather.

In the last three weeks, blooms have appeared along the shoreline on Anglesey and there have been some reports of children being stung.

The cold spring meant there were few reports of jellyfish before June.
