Around 150 people have attended a public meeting about traffic delays caused by work on a new river bridge.

The 154-year-old Pont Briwet bridge in Penrhyndeudraeth, Gwynedd, closed in January amid safety fears.

Gwynedd council dropped plans to build a temporary bridge and began an eight-mile (12 km) detour along the A496.

The meeting at Penrhyndeudraeth Memorial Hall was told that safety measures on the detour meant there was no cash left for a temporary crossing.

An earlier plan had included building a temporary road bridge.

The Grade II-listed Pont Briwet connects Llandecwyn and Penrhyndeudraeth.

The new bridge is expected to be built by Christmas.
