The number of people using the Holyhead to Dublin ferry reached record levels last year.
Provisional government figures show 1.88 million passengers made the trip in 2014, compared with 1.35 million back in 2003.
A Stena Line spokesman said: "This news further vindicates Stena Line's decision to introduce a new vessel onto the route."
The new Stena Superfast X can carry up to 1,200 passengers.
